Tarnwick Locks
Canal lock flight guide
Canal flight guide site that calculates whether a boat fits 11 locks, when it will clear them and what the toll is
How it was made
A guide to a flight of 11 narrow locks on the fictional Tarnwick Canal. The total fall of the flight is 27.6m.
The screen is an open ledger of two pages. The left page holds the page index and plates, the right page the main text.
Paper pages lie on a lilac desk #B8B2D4, with moss green #2C6A3A as the only colour. Type is Libre Caslon Text and Public Sans.
Entering boat length, beam and draft names the locks it will not fit, in a sentence and a table. The passage plan gives a finish time from arrival time and boats ahead.
The lock section, flight profile and mooring plan are SVG drawn from values. Pressing Fill raises the chamber level for up to 4 seconds, in proportion to the fill time.
On page change, only the right page is covered over 300ms. The 12 pages are generated from data by build.mjs.
