Marrowby Record Office

How it was made

A county record office branch in Marrowby, a fictional town in northern England. Six series and 72 items sit in one data file, from which 16 pages are generated.

One cream folder (#F6F0DF) on a manila desk (#D8BF86), seven staggered tabs and typewriter form fields. Ink and one stamp purple (#4A2B78) are the only colours; there are no gradients, shadows or rounded corners.

The typefaces are Bricolage Grotesque and Courier Prime, with eight plate photographs on the right. Tabs switch with cross-document View Transitions over 200ms, and the stamp lands once over 220ms.

From the order time and the store it works out which of the four pulls an item joins, when it arrives, and how a six-item slip is split across rounds. Desks free come from a hash of the date string, and the price calculators use the same functions in the build and the browser.
